  10. Q: Where can I get membership receipts?
  11. A: All membership receipts are located in your profile for the current season and last season

  12. Q: I have been inactive for three years. Do I have to pay 3 years of back dues?
  13. A: No, you simply reactivate your membership status in your profile page. Login using your last name and your member number, select the "reinstatement" tab to view and pay your membership dues.

  14. Q: I am a Level 1 instructor and have been inactive for 12 years. Do I have to retake my Level 1 course?
  15. A: Once you have passed your certification, it is yours for life. However, we strongly advise that you participate in a PDP session, offered free of charge, as this will act as a refresher course prior to returning to teaching.

  16. Q: How do I get the international certification (ISIA) sticker?
  17. A: To receive your ISIA sticker you must be a CSIA Level 4 International Certified Ski Instructor. Contact the National Office so that we may issue your sticker.

  18. Q: I passed my Level 1 in March and I just received a dues invoice in August. Isn't my membership good for one year after becoming certified?
  19. A: When you passed your level 1, you became certified and enjoyed all the rights and privileges of a current CSIA member for the remainder of the membership year. However, memberships are renewed every August. To retain your membership and receive all the member rights and privileges for another season, you must pay your dues invoice.

  20. AFFILIATE INSTRUCTORS:

  21. Q: I am certified from a foreign country, how can I become a CSIA member?
  22. A: You must send a copy of your current certification and application form to the Membership Services Department to be granted an Affiliate CSIA Member status. The cost for becoming a single affiliate member is CAN$132.00 plus applicable taxes.

  23. Q: If I want to become a CSIA Instructor do I get any credit for my other certification(s)?
  24. A: All Affiliate Instructors with legitimate foreign certification merit some degree of credit. Affiliate Instructors holding the ISIA designation from their country can become CSIA members by registering and attending a CSIA course and paying an annual membership fee of CAN$132.00 plus applicable taxes as a Affiliate Instructor.

  25. INSURANCE:

  26. Q: I am a CSIA foreign member and will be working as an instructor for a ski school in Canada. Should I injure myself while teaching, what coverage am I entitled to?
  27. A: Although foreign members are covered under the accident insurance, the coverage is limited to death and dismemberment indemnity, the principal sum being $25,000. The disability coverage is only for members who are registered under a Canadian provincial Medicare program. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you investigate purchasing accident insurance coverage prior to travelling to Canada

  28. Q: As a CSIA Instructor, am I insured to teach privately or as an "Independent"?
  29. A: No. coverage does NOT apply to instructors or coaches operating as an independent business. Please note that additional coverage is available and must be purchased if members are conducting business as Independent/Freelance Instructor/coach/snow school and/or ski camp. The intent of the policy is NOT to provide coverage for snow school/ski camp operations under a paid membership renewal.   30. Q: I am a CSIA instructor, and I would like to know if I am insured to teach outside of Canada?
  31. A: No. You are covered under our liability insurance program while teaching in Canada.

  32. COURSES:

  33. Q: How old do I have to be to take a Level 1 course?
  34. A: You must be 15 years of age by the first day of the course.

  35. Q: What type of skier must I be to take a Level 1 course?
  36. A: The Level 1 Ski Instructor certification is for any skier over the age of 15 that is a competent parallel skier. The Level 1 Candidate can expect to be exposed to a variety of terrain, terrain features and snow conditions. For more information, please read the Level 1 Course Guide.

  37. Q: But, I've never taught before.
  38. A: No worries, that's what the course is all about. The course conductors are there to teach you how to teach, so that you will be able to go out and give a great first lesson.

  39. Q: So how much does a Level 1 course cost?
  40. A: The cost of the course varies from region to region. You can find all the information pertaining to course fees and content by contacting the Level 1 Coordinators directly.

  41. Q: I'm interested in taking a Level 1 course this year. Can I register through your office?
  42. A: No, all Level 1 courses are administered by the regions. To register, simply visit the Level 1 section of our web site.

  43. Q: A friend of mine just received a nice plastic membership card. Why was I only given a cardboard card when I completed my Level 1 course?
  44. A: That’s your temporary card, which confirms that you have successfully completed your Level 1 course. Once your course results have been processed by the National Office, you will receive a plastic card with your new member number.

  45. Q: I took the Level 1 course and failed, what do I have do?
  46. A: CSIA - You must take a re-test, which occurs during the last 2 days of any scheduled Level 1 course. Please contact the Level 1 Coordinator in your region to register.
    CSCF - If you failed the skiing or teaching portion, you will have to re-test one of them.

  47. Level 2, 3, 4 & Modules:

  48. Q: I've passed my Level 1 and want to take another course?
  49. A: Check out the other courses available on our web site and you can register for them on-line.

  50. Q: What are the pre-requisites for courses?

  52. Q: If I only pass a portion of a Level 2, 3 or 4 exams, do I have to take the full course over again?
  53. A: You will never be retested on a portion of a certification that you have previously passed. Should you fail to pass both the ski and teach portions within a 2 year time frame or 730 days from the original course, you will be required to take the full course again. When you re-test, you will not be examined on the portion you passed, you will be re-tested on your failed portion.

  54. Q: I registered for a course, what if the weather is lousy?
  55. A: Courses take place regardless of weather conditions. The only time a course is cancelled is when there is a lack of snow/participants or the hill is closed due to extreme weather conditions (severe snow storms, lightning storms, intense high winds, etc.). Should the CSIA cancel a course, a full refund will be issued.

  56. Q: Where can I get course receipts?
  57. A: All course receipts are located in your profile for the current season and last season.
