GENERAL UPDATES:
Dear CSIA Member,
I am writing this Communiqué from my home, after a few action-filled weeks.
Since the last edition, I had a chance to connect with Members at a great Spring Fling Regional event in Jasper, Alberta. I presented and attended the Canada West Ski Areas Association (CWSAA) spring conference and spent a bit of time with our new Interski Team, during their first training camp at Sunshine Village!
The next 7 weeks are going to be busy, as we work through our Strategic Plan annual review and budget planning and approval for the 2022-2023 season. This key portion of our annual cycle, combined with Ontario Ski Resort Association Meetings (OSRA) and the ASSQ (Association des stations de ski du Québec) is going to make the spring fly by!
EDUCATION PROGRAM COORDINATOR (EPC), ALBERTA
There are very few of us that have not been impacted by Don Kjorven’s career in the CSIA.
There is a very good chance you have either been trained directly by “KJ” or been trained by someone who was trained by Don. Don is a Titan in our organization, having filled, for decades, countless roles in Regional, National, and International leadership capacities.
In the statement below, Don is announcing his retirement from the role of Education Program Coordinator (EPC) for Alberta.
Hello Members,
The CSIA has been a lifeline for me and an exciting journey that I will always cherish. The close friends and associates working with us over the years have always been supportive and understanding and we appreciate everyone for this.
I do feel that, for me, the time has come to pass the EPC baton. Karen as the RAC will stay on to support the new person taking on the EPC role. I'm sure her experience will be a considerable asset to the organization.
To all, I wish you the best and look forward to working with you in the future.

Following Don’s announcement, combined with the recent EPC opening in Ontario, we will start the search for both (Alberta and Ontario) EPC replacements, prior to the end of the month.

MEMBERSHIP TOWN HALL
As we are entering into a post COVID period (fingers crossed), it has been so great for all of us to reconnect in person! I know from the staff perspective, that reconnecting in person has been invaluable!
Through the Pandemic, we did, however, come across a valuable tool that we also continue to make use of. The virtual meeting format does give us an opportunity to meet across the entire Membership at once. And in my focus, I let the opportunity to stay connected virtually slip down the list a bit.
To the point, when we announced and executed the last virtual Town Hall, it was rushed in its execution. My sincerest apologies for that! Going forward, in the years ahead, I envision quarterly town halls, scheduled at the start of the season, allowing us to execute better, and allowing everyone to plan their participation well in advance.
