Hello CSIA Members,
I hope this email finds each of you enjoying the last weeks of summer!
Starting with this issue, our plan is to send out this Managing Director’s Communiqué, every second Thursday. It will be hosted chronologically on snowpro.com with an accessible tab right from the top menu on the Home Page! Our goal is to increase both the level of communication and service to you, the Member! This biweekly update will centralize all important updates about membership benefits, industry updates and Program/curriculum information.
In this initial 2021-2022 season issue, I will touch onCOVID-19, the results of year one of the Level 4 Academy, the new Director of Product Quality Position and some upcoming general Membership Zoom Town Hall sessions.
COVID-19
As vaccination rates continue to progress, we are looking forward to a more “normal” 2021-2022 ski season. If you have not yet been vaccinated and are looking for more information regarding vaccination, check out the Faster, Together website. The CSIA is an active participant of the Faster Together movement. The more of us that get vaccinated the greater the chances of us all enjoying and sharing our passion for the slopes, this winter! With vaccination proof required for air travel and the recent announcements in British Columbia and Quebec, we are, at this time, expecting the proof of vaccination may be a requirement for participation in CSIA programs. We will keep you posted during the fall, in the lead up to the winter. Unfortunately, we are not out of the pandemic, yet.
LEVEL 4 ACADEMY
2020-2021, saw the first ever Level 4 “Academy”. Leading up to this season, two main issues were identified by our Membership data and the Membership feedback received. Those issues were: the pass rate of our highest Level of Certification was 7% (based on our last 20-year history) and that our Course Conductor community was underrepresented in the younger segments. Case in point, in the average age of a Level 4 was 54 years old. While this is a great strength, it also highlights that we need more Course Conductors in the pipeline, for our organization to be sustainable.
The Academy concept was designed and implemented to give further training to the candidates and therefore increasing their chance of success.
The following summary data outlines the results of the first year of the Level 4 Academy.

In summary, increased participation, more female participation, and the success rate that more than doubled. All measures that were identified as key pillars will need to be improved through our Strategic Plan.
NEW POSITION: DIRECTOR OF PRODUCT QUALITY
Earlier this summer we advertised for a new executive level position in the organization: the Director of Product Quality. This new role came from Member feedback, and I am excited about adding this new resource to our product delivery and Member service efforts. In case you missed the announcement earlier this week, please click here to read the announcement.
MEMBERSHIP ZOOM SESSIONS
Like last year, we are going to host a series of Membership Zoom sessions to provide updates and to address early season questions you may have. To start, we are going to schedule two of them, one English and one French. As demand indicates, we could add further sessions if needed. Since this is open to the entire Membership, registration in advance is required on both English and French sessions.
The first two sessions are as follows:
MEMBERSHIP TOWN HALL (ENGLISH SESSION)
You are invited to a Zoom meeting.
When: September 7, 2021, 07:00 PM Eastern Standard Time
Register in advance for this meeting by clicking here.
MEMBERSHIP TOWN HALL (FRENCH SESSION)
You are invited to a Zoom meeting.
When: Sep 8, 2021, 07:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada)
Register in advance for this meeting by clicking here.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
The next edition of this Communiqué will be September 9th and will include key information about new and continued Membership value and we will announce the launch of Membership renewal. In the meantime, I look forward to seeing you at the upcoming Town Halls!
Best Regards,
On behalf of the entire CSIA Staff Team,
Perry Schmunk
Managing Director
