Managing Director

Welcome to this 16th edition of the “Communiqué!”

GENERAL UPDATES:

I am writing this edition of the Communiqué from Levi, Finland where Jeff Marks, our National Program Director and Interski Team Head Coach, and I, are attending the site visit and Interski meetings, prior to next year’s Interski Event.

A few highlights from the trip so far: Levi will be a great venue for the 2023 Interski event! The Finnish people are great hosts, and the organizing committee is well prepared! The infrastructure of the resort is world-class, and the resort is a small intimate village, ideal for connecting with the rest of the skiing nations.

One of the key elements that Jeff and I are looking at while we are here, during this visit, is the ability to offer packages for the 2023 event to the CSIA Membership. This is the feedback we have received since the last Interski in Bulgaria, and we are looking forward to offering this value to our CSIA Members. We will keep everyone updated on timing through the spring and summer.

Last night, Erich Melmer, Interski President, addressed the delegations from all the attending Nations, with the following message:

It is so important as we come out of the Global Pandemic, that the World gets back together again! With current world events, getting the international community back together in peace, was one of the original goals of Interski in 1951, and remains paramount today.”

Erich Melmer has one more day in his role as Interski President and will be succeeded by Eric Sheckleton (from the PSIA). Eric is the first North American Interski President since our very own Norman Crerar held the office, leading up to the 1987 Interski Event in Banff.

At the time of writing this, we are on Day 1 of the 3-day visit of the site and meetings. In the next edition of the Communiqué, I will have further details on the themes presented for next year’s main event.
