ISIA recognition for CSIA Members
The International Ski Instructors Association (ISIA) is the international federation that establishes minimum standards for the education and professional recognition of snow sports instructors worldwide. ISIA recognition provides a common reference point that allows employers, resorts, and national organizations to better understand an instructor’s training and qualifications across borders.
As an ISIA member association, the Canadian Ski Instructors’ Alliance (CSIA) is authorized to administer and issue the ISIA Stamp to eligible members who meet the ISIA minimum standard through the Canadian system.
The ISIA Stamp confirms that a CSIA member’s education, safety training, and certification meet internationally recognized benchmarks. The Stamp must always be used in conjunction with CSIA certification and does not replace local employment, legal, or immigration requirements.
ISIA Stamp and ISIA Card
ISIA recognizes two distinct forms of international acknowledgement:
This page outlines the ISIA Stamp pathway available to CSIA members.
Eligibility Requirements (CSIA Pathway)
To be considered for the ISIA Stamp through CSIA, members must meet all of the following requirements:
Education hours must be completed through CSIA or a recognized Canadian partner organization. Programs may only be counted once, even if repeated. Private coaching, in-house snow school training, and hours worked as an instructor are not eligible toward the 320-hour requirement.
Recognized Canadian education partners include:
CSIA, ACA/CSCF, CASI, CANSI, CADS, CSGA, and CFSA. (Show logo’s here)
There is no fee charged by CSIA for the ISIA Stamp.
Application Process
Eligible members submit an ISIA Stamp application through CSIA. Applications are reviewed to confirm certification level, safety requirements, and education history. Once eligibility is verified, CSIA issues the ISIA Stamp in accordance with ISIA guidelines.
The ISIA Stamp does not expire; however, members must maintain current CSIA membership and comply with any ongoing education or currency requirements established by CSIA or ISIA.
Important Notes
ISIA recognition supports international understanding of instructor qualifications but does not guarantee employment, work authorization, or acceptance by individual resorts. Local regulations, resort hiring policies, and national employment laws always apply.
International Partners and Affiliate Recognition
CSIA maintains relationships with international organizations to support professional mobility, recognition, and cooperation within the global snow sports instruction community. These relationships vary in scope and may include mutual recognition, affiliate membership, or alignment of education standards, depending on the organization. The CSIA does not grant any ISIA recognition for Affiliate CSIA members (they must be regular certified members).
Affiliate members would not have taken any of our certifications and therefore should obtain the ISIA recognition from the country with whom they are certified.
ISIA Membership
CSIA is a full member of the International Ski Instructors Association, participating in ISIA congresses, technical exchanges, and working groups. Through ISIA, CSIA aligns its education standards with internationally recognized minimum benchmarks and contributes to the development of global instructor education.
Affiliate and Recognition Relationships
CSIA maintains professional relationships and recognition pathways with other national and international snow sports organizations. These relationships are designed to support instructor understanding across systems but do not imply automatic equivalency or certification transfer unless explicitly stated.
Examples of organizations with which CSIA maintains professional dialogue or recognition alignment include:
Scope and Limitations of International Recognition
International partnerships and affiliate relationships:
CSIA encourages members seeking international employment to contact the destination country’s national organization and prospective employers directly to confirm specific requirements.
Ongoing Development
CSIA continues to work with international partners to strengthen alignment, improve transparency, and support Canadian instructors working abroad. Updates to recognition pathways and agreements are communicated to members as they are formally established.
The ISIA Speed Test is a key step toward achieving International Ski Instructors Association (ISIA) Card recognition. As part of the ISIA certification pathway, the Speed Test is a standardized Giant Slalom race designed to benchmark an instructor’s technical skiing against internationally defined performance standards. Successfully meeting the qualifying criteria demonstrates a high level of technical proficiency and allows CSIA instructors to obtain the ISIA Card, which is recognized by member nations worldwide. This recognition supports instructor mobility, professional credibility, and alignment with international standards, reinforcing the CSIA’s commitment to developing instructors who can perform and teach at the highest level.
In order to maintain the integrity of the certification, all members are recommended to participate in a recall activity at least once every 3 seasons. CSIA Recall can be updated by completing the Safety Awereness Training online module, or by participating in a CSIA Certification course, CSIA on-snow Course Conductor Training, CSIA Pro Day or a CSIA Pro Session.
It is in the Members’ best interest to keep their Certification up to date as it helps to maintain your Certification’s integrity, especially given the fact that numerous employers do verify the recall year.
Your CSIA Recall year is displayed on your downloadable Membership Card.
