MONTREAL, QC, September 9, 2025 – The Professional Mountain Bike Instructors Association (PMBIA) and the Canadian Ski Instructors’ Alliance (CSIA) are pleased to announce a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore opportunities for collaboration that will benefit both organizations, their members, and the broader outdoor sport community.
The PMBIA and CSIA are both not-for-profit, member-based organizations dedicated to providing world-class training, certification, and professional development for instructors in their respective sports. Together, they certify and support thousands of professionals annually, delivering safe, engaging, and high-quality learning experiences to riders, skiers, and outdoor enthusiasts around the world.
Recognizing shared values and a common commitment to excellence in education, the MOU establishes a framework for a working group to identify and recommend areas of mutual benefit. The working group will explore sharing expertise in teaching and learning methods, technology, and promoting a positive image for mountain bike and ski instructors.
“We are thrilled to see this great initiative take shape with the PMBIA as it directly connects to a key pillar of CSIA’s strategic plan. Our stated goal was to expand partnerships and collaboration with industry partners and like-minded organizations, and this represents a major step forward in that direction.” Said Nigel Loring managing director of the Canadian Ski Instructor Alliance “this new partnership has such great value potential for enhancing services, education and potential work opportunities for CSIA members during the off-season.”
"Like the CSIA, one of PMBIA’s key strategic goals is to build formal partnerships with other sporting and certification bodies to add value for our members and elevate outdoor sport education,” said Suki Cheyne, Executive Director of the Professional Mountain Bike Instructors Association. “This agreement reflects that commitment and opens the door to meaningful collaboration that will strengthen both of our communities. Together, we can offer instructors greater opportunities for professional development and growth."
By fostering stronger connections between the mountain biking and skiing communities, this collaboration aims to create innovative, cross-disciplinary opportunities that enhance the professional development of instructors, raise instructional standards, and promote outdoor sport participation in all seasons.
