ISIA
CSIA is a full member of the International Ski Instructors Association, participating in ISIA congresses, technical exchanges, and working groups. Through ISIA, CSIA aligns its education standards with internationally recognized minimum benchmarks and contributes to the development of global instructor education.

The International Ski Instructors Association
The International Ski Instructors Association (ISIA) establishes global standards for snow sports education to ensure qualifications are recognized worldwide. As Canada’s sole ISIA member association, the CSIA is uniquely authorized to issue the ISIA Stamp to qualifying members. Used alongside your CSIA certification, this stamp serves as a powerful, internationally recognized benchmark of your skills.
ISIA Stamp for CSIA Members
Eligibility Requirements – To be considered for the ISIA Stamp through CSIA, members must meet all the following requirements:
- Hold CSIA Level 3 certification or higher
- Maintain current valid First Aid certification
- Hold Avalanche Skills Training (AST) certification
- Accumulate a minimum of 320 eligible education hours
- Maintain active CSIA membership in good standing
Education hours must be completed through CSIA or a recognized Canadian partner organization. Programs may only be counted once, even if repeated. Private coaching, in-house snow school training, and hours worked as an instructor are not eligible toward the 320-hour requirement.
Recognized Canadian education partners include: CSIA, ACA/CSCF, CASI, CANSI, CADS, CSGA, and CFSA.
CSIA does not charge a fee for the ISIA Stamp.
Application Process – Eligible members submit an ISIA Stamp application through CSIA. Applications are reviewed to confirm certification level, safety requirements, and education history. Once eligibility is verified, CSIA issues the ISIA Stamp in accordance with ISIA guidelines.
The ISIA Stamp is valid for the current season and automatically renews annually if members maintain a current CSIA membership and comply with any ongoing education or currency requirements established by CSIA or ISIA.
Csia pathway for foreign ISIA Card Holders
The CSIA recognizes the experience and qualifications of international ski instructors who hold a valid ISIA Card (Black level) and are currently working in Canada. This pathway is intended to provide clarity while maintaining the integrity and standards of CSIA programs.
Recognition of ISIA Certification – A valid ISIA Card (Black level) is recognized as confirmation that the holder has met international ISIA standards. Individuals holding this certification and working in Canada may be eligible to challenge the CSIA Level 4 certification, provided they meet all standard CSIA prerequisites.
Pathway to CSIA Level 4 – Qualified ISIA Card holders may apply to challenge the CSIA Level 4 certification. All candidates will be evaluated against the same national standards and must meet all prerequisites before registration.
Participation in CSIA Programs – ISIA Card holders may participate in CSIA Certification programs and professional development activities, subject to meeting program prerequisites and receiving CSIA approval.
Eligibility to Work within CSIA Programs – Holding an ISIA Card or successfully achieving CSIA Level 4 does not automatically grant eligibility to deliver CSIA programs. To work as a Course Conductor (CC) within the CSIA system, one must complete the Trainer Designation (TD) and attend CSIA Course Conductor training annually. Only after completing these requirements are individuals eligible to deliver CSIA certification courses and evaluations.
Until these requirements are met, ISIA Card holders may not deliver CSIA Certification Programs, and may not act as assessors, examiners, or Course Conductors. In certain cases, individuals may be invited to contribute as guest experts or collaborators in clearly defined roles.
Application Process – Applications from ISIA Card holders are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

international recognition
CSIA maintains professional relationships and recognition pathways with other national and international snow sports organizations. These relationships are designed to support instructor understanding across systems but do not imply automatic equivalency or certification transfer unless explicitly stated.
Examples of organizations with which CSIA maintains professional dialogue or recognition alignment include:
- Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA-AASI)
CSIA and PSIA participate in international technical exchanges and share common educational principles through ISIA and Interski forums. Certification pathways remain independent. - International Federation of Snowsport Instructors (Interski)
CSIA participates in Interski Congresses, contributing to international knowledge sharing and technical development. - National ISIA Member Associations
Through ISIA, CSIA is connected to instructor organizations in Europe, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas. Recognition of credentials remains subject to each country’s regulations and employer requirements.
Scope and Limitations of International Recognition
International partnerships and affiliate relationships:
- Support professional understanding and transparency
- Do not guarantee employment rights or certification transfer
- Do not replace national qualification requirements
- May require additional assessments or documentation depending on the host country
CSIA encourages members seeking international employment to contact the destination country’s national organization and prospective employers directly to confirm specific requirements.
Ongoing Development – CSIA continues to work with international partners to strengthen alignment, improve transparency, and support Canadian instructors working abroad. Updates to recognition pathways and agreements are communicated to members as they are formally established.
